The Digital and High-Frequency Electronics (DHFE) section at the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, based at the university campus in Odense, seeks outstanding individuals for full-time Assistant Professor positions in Power Electronics, focusing on power management for electronic and computing devices and systems. Successful applicants are expected to contribute to the development of academic programs and the research community. Applicants should have a PhD in Power Electronics or a closely related field.
The DHFE section focuses on conducting research in digital and high-frequency electronics, embedded systems, control, and communication, utilizing cutting-edge reconfigurable computing and sensors. The aim is to develop next-generation electronics and computing solutions that solve technology-related challenges in fields such as autonomous robots, drones, IoT, smart grid, and healthcare.
Applicants are expected to establish and maintain a research program in high-frequency power electronics and power management for computation, along with low-voltage electronic systems. The position emphasizes converter and power-management for computing platforms and resource-constrained applications, including battery-operated, energy-harvesting, mobile, autonomous, embedded, and sensor-based systems.
The section is a vital component of our Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Science programs in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in Odense. Currently, the section focuses on three research fields: 1) Drones for Infrastructure Inspections and Interactions, 2) High-Frequency SMPS and power management for low-power electronic systems, and 3) Telecommunication Systems. The section has 15 academics, including professors, postdoctoral fellows, PhD students, and engineers, to support research, industrial collaboration, and educational activities, and is growing steadily.
The SDU campus in Odense contains six faculties and soon a large university hospital, creating a great concentration of academics and students facilitating interdisciplinary research and rich student life. The city of Odense is culturally rich, surrounded by a vibrant and growing robotics community, and highly livable with a green-banked meandering river cutting through the centre and attractive residential areas.
Job Description
The position focuses on power management for resource-constrained autonomous, mobile, and embedded electronic systems. Relevant research areas include high-frequency power conversion, battery-operated systems, energy harvesting, power management architectures, embedded control, and analog/digital control of converters. The application domain spans from ultra-low-power electronics and sensors to mobile platforms, robotics, drones, IoT devices, and power management for embedded, compact, and high-performance computing systems.
The role strengthens DHFE’s research profile at the interface between power electronics, microelectronics, embedded systems, and intelligent electronic devices. It is expected to support shared research themes across SDU, including energy-efficient electronics, autonomous systems, battery-powered platforms, sensor networks, health technology, and miniaturized or distributed devices.
The successful candidate should work constructively both with colleagues within DHFE and also with colleagues from other research units, such as SDU Microelectronics, SDU Centre for Industrial Electronics, the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, Faculty of Health (specifically Health Tech), Mechanical Engineering, and other relevant environments, translating power electronics competence into system-level contributions for electronic devices and platforms.
Duties
As a faculty member, you will be responsible for developing and delivering undergraduate and graduate teaching in Electronic and Electrical Engineering, with particular attention to strengthening control and power electronics within the BSc portfolio. This includes supervising students at Bachelor and Master’s level, mentoring students, integrating with the student body, and participating in education and outreach activities. Research duties include establishing an externally funded research agenda, publishing in leading journals and conferences, supervising early-career researchers, and contributing to the development of DHFE’s research environment. The candidate is also expected to contribute to external collaboration and perform service at the section, department, university, and professional levels.
Qualifications Required

The applicant should hold a doctoral degree (PhD) in Power Electronics, Electronics, or a related subject area.

Demonstrated potential for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses at the university level.

The applicant must have relevant research expertise in areas related to efficient and high-frequency power converters, converter control, and power management for computing or embedded electronic systems.

The applicant must have teaching skills that align with the content and responsibilities of the position. This includes possessing both pedagogical and professional skills essential for carrying out the tasks associated with the role.

Employment terms
Appointment as an assistant professor is temporary and for an initial 3-year period, and the preferred start date is from January 1, 2027. The final start date will be agreed with the successful applicant.
During employment, the assistant professor will complete the Lecturer Training Programme.
Employment as an assistant professor requires academic qualifications at a minimum of PhD level at the time of employment. Employment will be in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations for academics in the state including the associated circular on the protocol for the job structure for academic staff at Danish universities and the provisions for assistant professor as described therein.
Salary is determined in accordance with the applicable collective agreement and based on objective and gender-neutral criteria, including the content of the position, responsibilities, and qualification requirements.
