The Department of Economics and Business Economics at Aarhus BSS, Aarhus University, invites applications for a number of positions as associate professor in the field of economics and business economics. The associate professorship is a full-time, permanent position with expected starting date 1 August 2027 or as soon as possible subject to mutual agreement.

The department conducts research and teaching within economics and business economics covering fields such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, finance, econometrics, business intelligence and operations research.

Job description
As associate professor you are expected to contribute significantly to the research, teaching and general academic environment of the department and to promote the overall strategy of the department and Aarhus BSS. You are expected to teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD level and to carry out research of the highest international standards, which contributes to developing the academic field of economics and business economics.

Also, you are expected to attract external research funding, to develop public and/or business relations, to contribute to knowledge exchange and dissemination of research results, to take on relevant administrative duties, and to contribute constructively to the academic and collegial environment of the department. The department is international and has more than 30 nationalities represented as department members. Non-Danish applicants are expected to learn Danish within the first few years of employment.

Your qualifications

To qualify for an associate professorship, you must demonstrate research excellence and momentum, strong teaching qualifications, and good academic and collegial citizenship.

You have a well-documented international research profile, with publications in leading and well-respected peer-reviewed journals in the relevant field. As a guideline, you should document approximately 3–6 publications in good general-interest or good field journals, and a productivity equivalent to at least one publication per research year. Top general-interest or top field journals carry greater weight and generally quality and impact are preferred to and compensates for quantity.

Your research pipeline should demonstrate continued momentum. Working papers, papers submitted to journals, and papers documented to be at the revise-and-resubmit stage may also be taken into consideration. You should demonstrate increasing research independence and a variety of research contributions and co-author constellations, and you should have begun establishing national and international research networks.

Equally important, you must demonstrate high-quality teaching and supervision at Bachelor’s and/or Master’s level. Experience with course responsibility, including curriculum development and the development of course material, is preferable but not a requirement. You must have completed the pedagogical course for assistant professors at Aarhus BSS or obtained an equivalent qualification. Teaching qualifications will be assessed on the basis of the teaching portfolio, with emphasis on teaching evaluations, experience with different forms of teaching, and commitment to teaching and supervision.

Experience with, or potential for, attracting external research funding, outreach and knowledge exchange, and contributions to a good academic and collegial work environment are considered important qualifications in addition to research and teaching.

Permanent employment as associate professor at Aarhus BSS requires completion of the supervision course and also the course Online and blended learning provided by Centre for Educational Development at Aarhus University. If you have not completed the courses before commencement of employment, continued employment will be conditional on completion of the courses within a two-year period.
